Keystone pipeline

I am Andrew, a student in Canada and I stand for harmonization of environmental standards. I'm in secondary 5 and I dislike the fact that Canada pulled out of the protocol in 2012. I like the environment and hate hydrocarbons. I believe in preserving fossil fuels and agriculturism.
The Keystone pipeline could be very crucial to our environment, if the plan goes threw. The Pipeline will be connecting Alberta to Texas, making 3 stops on the way. By opening up the tar sands in Alberta, we expect an increase in global temperature, of at least 2 degrees Celsius. This is very disturbing because 2014 was the hottest year ever recorded on earth. By increasing the temperature, you are awaking droughts in many areas, affecting crops for farmers. The making of the keystone Pipeline can also lead to deforestation; because of the emissions of hydrocarbons that are released into the air. The pipeline will be moving 830 000 gallons of oil per day creating high possibilities of oil spills according to CNN. Although the Keystone Pipeline is said to be the safest pipeline ever built by engineers, there is still a possibility that there will be an oil spill in the future; That wouldn't be good because the oil coming from Alberta is already very dirty to begin with. What environmentalist fear the most is climate change above all according to CNN. Alberta, Calgary already emits 17 percent more carbon dioxide then the USA and Russia combined and this is due to the amount of heat needed to separate the oil from the sand. Environmentalist have done studies and shown that if every drop of the oil sands in Alberta were to be used, it would be the end of the human survival and the climate will increase astronomically according to Filepost. By 2030, Canada will be doubling the amounts of oil from the oil sands they use and already a large amount of oil consumed is very dirty. If the keystone pipeline comes into play, we will all be affected. Since a lot of Canadian banks have already invested large amounts of money into this pipeline, a lot of citizens are worried that it might go through. If the pipeline comes into play, there are solutions we can implement, according to UNEP and international environmental program. One of the solutions would be too run tests regularly to ensure that it is safe to be transporting large amounts of dirty oil. Another solution would be to make a law ensuring that Alberta doesn't give away all its oil because if they do, the world's climate will increase dramatically.
